Serenity

Once all the things in life fail to truly satisfy us, we will find that true satisfaction has always been available to us in a relationship with Jesus.

It’s easy to think that we will find our true satisfaction in good things like family, or Christian community, or even Christian ministry. Even if we find our calling and it completely aligns with our passions, it would still prove to be inadequately satisfying.

Ultimately those things will fail to satisfy us. Our primary satisfaction can only be found in a personal relationship with Jesus.

My hope for this painting was to create a place of quiet rejuvenation with the Lord. A place where one can go to commune with the living God in complete solitude and serenity. An inviting place to worship and surrender our burdens as we lay them at God’s feet in prayer every day.

I found that I feel most at peace not when I have everything in my life under control, which is an illusion, by the way. But when I realize that there are a lot of things in life that are outside of my control. And when I choose to willingly surrender those things to God, that’s when true peace comes. The Bible says:

“But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.”

NLT, Psalm 56:3

There is no use worrying about things that are outside of my control (preaching to myself here). Because I cannot influence them. And while it’s hard, giving my anxieties to the Lord will make me feel more at peace.

I wanted this painting to be a visual reminder to surrender our burdens to God and illustrate a place where we can come away to be alone with God and spend time in prayer and reading His Word. That’s when we will truly find ourselves feeling not only at peace, but also satisfied.
